Bequest Language

General-Purpose Bequest

Simple, straightforward, unrestricted. The Metropolitan Opera is especially grateful for these outright bequests that may be used immediately where most needed, at the discretion of the Board of Directors.

Special-Purpose Bequest

You may earmark your bequest for other special programs that meet particular needs of the Met. Please, though, be sure not to make the wording so specific that your gift couldn’t be used if future circumstances change. There are a number of activities for which the Met seeks special funding; please check with the Planned Giving office to confirm that this list is up to date.

Endowment Bequest

You may also contribute to the Metropolitan Opera’s endowment. Endowment gifts are held and invested to provide ongoing support to the Met, for both general and special purposes.

An endowment gift of $100,000 or more may be used to create a named fund in your own name or to honor the memory of a loved one. Your gift becomes a lasting symbol of the bond between the Metropolitan Opera and those who are forever honored.

If you want to establish a named endowment fund or designate your gift for some special purpose, we will be pleased to help you and your attorney tailor the language to suit your particular wishes and the needs of the Metropolitan Opera. Because of the permanency of an endowment gift, be sure to contact us before you complete your will.
